Community Work & Fundraising at St Thomas More Catholic School
Something very important to us as a school is responding to the needs of the world. We all need love and we all need our basic needs met, and for many this doesn’t happen.
Throughout the year, St Thomas More raise money for various different causes, and pupils are always keen to get stuck in with fundraising. In September 2017, we started with a Macmillan Coffee Morning hosted by our 6th formers along with our Health & Social Department, and then our efforts were spent collecting donations for the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal where we were able triple the number of boxes from the previous year.
In December, the students and staff raised over £1000 as well as a mass of donations for the Salvation Army within our local community, and £560 for the If U Care Share Foundation following a Christmas Jumper Day. For Lenten Alms, the school came together to raise over £4600 for the Balamma Satram at Holy Family Home for the Needy through various different activities such as car washes, cake sales and even a staff version of strictly come dancing! Our latest effort was collecting donations for a local foodbank, the Trussell Trust.
All in all, a fantastic show of school community spirit and it’s excellent to see the hard work and generosity of our pupils for these worthwhile causes.
