Key Stage 4

During Key Stage 4 pupils study the subjects they selected as part of the options process in addition to the following core subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Religious Studies
  • Science [Double or Triple Award]
  • Physical Education
  • PSHE / Citizenship

A key aspect of our curriculum implementation across Key Stage 4 is our intervleved approach to learning, referred to as ‘Make it Stick’ across the school. This structure focuses on the spaced repetition of ideas and the interleaving of different but related topics as well as holding pupils to account for their personal study or revision. An outline of how we implement our curriculum in each subject area can be seen in the departmental long term planning grids.

Key Stage 4 – 5 Transition

We are confident that all pupils, by the end of Key Stage 4, at St Thomas More Catholic School have had an excellent educational experience which has ensured they are very well equipped for the next stage of their education, training or employment.  We work with pupils to ensure whatever route they decide to take is the right one for them.  The processes we use are similar to those between Key Stage 3 to 4 to ensure pupils are given the opportunity to talk to experience staff.
