Our Behaviour Policy and Curriculum
Behaviour is a strength at St Thomas More, and we are proud that our pupils embrace our focus on building strong relationships and demonstrating mutual respect and care for one another. Our approach to behaviour is rooted in promoting positive relationships that support exemplary conduct from all members of our community.
The principles below, drawn from our Behaviour Policy, guide both staff and pupils in maintaining a respectful, calm, and supportive school environment, ensuring that every member of our community can thrive.
Principle 1: We are a polite, respectful, and civilised community; we show love and respect to all pupils.
Principle 2: We focus on de-escalation; behaviour is addressed at the level at which it first presents.
Principle 3: We focus on apologies, forgiveness, and fresh starts; we value restorative approaches, accepting apologies and returning to learning-focused conversations.
The Behaviour Curriculum
In addition to our Behaviour Policy, we have a clear and structured Behaviour Curriculum, shared with both pupils and families. Just like all taught curricula in the school, it is structured around key concepts, with crucial information provided under each.
We refer to this as a Behaviour Curriculum because we explicitly teach behaviour, tailoring strands to cohorts, groups, and individual pupils as needed. The key aim of this curriculum is to ensure clarity, consistency, and shared understanding of our expectations across the whole school. Our Behaviour Curriculum is outlined below:
