Our mission and values
St Thomas More has a proud and long-established mission, rooted in Gospel Values and our commitment to educating the whole child. While we cherish our Catholic traditions, we also recognise the importance of preparing our pupils for the challenges and opportunities of the modern world. Our values guide us in developing confident, compassionate, and resilient young adults who are ready to make a positive difference in society.
The Gospel Values encourage us to act with love, respect, and service — to be good neighbours to those in need and to support others with kindness and integrity. These timeless principles provide a moral foundation that continues to guide us in a rapidly changing world, helping our pupils to grow not only in knowledge but also in character.
Our values are deeply connected to our mission statement and drive our ambition to ensure that every member of our community reaches their full potential. They shape our decisions, our relationships, and our shared vision for the future.
Our Mission Statement
Our mission statement captures who we are and what we strive to achieve. It reminds us that each person is unique, created in the image of God, and capable of reaching their full potential — whatever that may be.

Our Motto: Regis servus Dei prius — “The King’s good servant, but God’s first.”

This motto, the final declaration of St Thomas More before his death in 1535, embodies courage, faith, and integrity. It reminds us that true success comes from doing what is right — not what is easy — and from living with purpose and conviction. For us, it represents a commitment to moral integrity and service above self-interest, values that are just as relevant today as they were in More’s time.
At St Thomas More, our mission statement and motto are not symbolic words confined to the walls of our school — they live and breathe in everything we do. They are at the heart of our conversations with pupils and families, and they guide our daily actions, decisions, and relationships. They reflect who we are, how we behave, and what we stand for as a community.
By building on our traditions and faith, we empower our young people to shape their own futures with confidence, compassion, and courage — inspired by the enduring example of St Thomas More.
