Wellbeing & Inclusivity

Wellbeing and Inclusivity for all

One of our main priorities as a school is ensuring that students, staff, and families feel safe, cared for, and supported. Our whole-school approach to wellbeing is embedded in the curriculum, giving all pupils a strong foundation in strategies to maintain their wellbeing.

In addition, we provide a range of bespoke support services for individuals or groups of students. These include:

  • Wider Curriculum lessons on Health and Wellbeing
  • Weekly ‘Keeping Safe and Well’ sessions delivered in pastoral time
  • Personal Development ‘Pop Up’ sessions, often featuring wellbeing themes

Our Wellbeing Team

We are fortunate to have a dedicated team of staff prioritising the wellbeing of all pupils:

  • A qualified counsellor working in-school, with strong links to external agencies
  • A Wellbeing Lead, working closely with the Assistant Head Teacher for Wellbeing, the pastoral team, and our counsellor
  • The Wellbeing Champions pupil group, which supports and promotes wellbeing across the school
  • A dedicated Education Welfare Officer to ensure all pupils are supported to attend school consistently
  • A range of intervention programmes delivered by our Learning Support and Behaviour support team

We also support families. Concerns can be raised via the house email addresses, and additional resources, including apps and external agencies, are provided on our wellbeing page.

Inclusivity

Inclusion at St Thomas More means valuing diversity and ensuring all students, regardless of background, feel respected, included, and able to succeed.

#NeverOk Campaign

We are committed to tackling bullying and discrimination in all forms, including child-on-child abuse. Our #NeverOk campaign empowers pupils to report incidents they witness or experience. Reports can be made via stm-neverok@stm.bwcet.com

British Values

As part of our commitment to educating the whole child, we support students in understanding and celebrating British Values, preparing them to flourish in wider society. Many of these values echo the Gospel Values we teach and live out daily. Pupils explore these through the curriculum, pastoral sessions, and RE lessons, with opportunities to actively live them out in school and the wider community.

One Community

Our Mission Statement inspires everything we do. We believe all people have the right to be protected from discrimination and ensure pupils understand Protected Characteristics under UK law. Pupils are also taught about other faiths and cultures to foster empathy, respect, and understanding.

We are proud of our inclusive and welcoming community, celebrating diversity and nurturing the development of every member of the St Thomas More family.
