Pupil Leadership

Pupil Leadership

Pupil leadership is a key part of life at St Thomas More. We believe it is vital to understand what our pupils want and need from their school, while also providing opportunities for them to develop the leadership skills they will need in the future. With this in mind, we offer a variety of leadership opportunities open to all pupils.

Pupil Forum
The Pupil Forum meets half-termly to discuss issues that matter most to our pupils. Supported by a member of staff, pupils take responsibility for sharing their feedback with Mrs Turner, who responds formally in writing and meets with the group. The Forum has made a real difference to school life, and we are incredibly proud of the improvements they have helped to implement.

Form Captains
Each tutor group elects a Form Captain to represent their peers. Form Captains meet regularly with their Head of House and take responsibility for organising activities such as prayer rotas, Sports Day allocations, fundraising initiatives, and many other events. This role allows pupils to develop organisational and leadership skills while acting as the voice of their tutor group.

Sixth Form Prefects
Prefects support staff in the smooth running of the school day and act as positive role models. They carry out duties, support fundraising initiatives, and collaborate with staff to ensure the school operates efficiently. Students apply for this role and are interviewed by the Sixth Form team. Prefects tell us that the role helps them develop confidence, gain insight into the running of a large school, and build skills valuable for the workplace.

Key Stage 5 Student Leadership Team
This team consists of Head and Deputy Head Students, supported by Lead Prefects. They liaise with Mrs Turner to discuss important issues, lead the Sixth Form student body, and act as ambassadors for the school. The team regularly supports whole-school events and shares their experiences with families, helping to showcase the St Thomas More community.

Through these opportunities, pupils develop confidence, responsibility, and a sense of pride in their school. Pupil leadership is central to our ethos, allowing students to have a real voice in shaping the life of St Thomas More.
