The school bus service is managed by and paid for by Nexus. Various bus operators then bid for the contracts. The bus
operators may therefore change between years or terms. The Nexus website is kept up to date with information
regarding which operator is running each service.
Tickets and Passes: A single fare for students with an Under 16 POP card it is 60p. A Child All-Day Ticket with an Under 16 POP card is £1.10. If students are travelling via public transport in Tyne and Wear every day, you can apply to Nexus for a School Pass. This means you will pay in advance for travel to / from school. Students may qualify for help with travel costs from the Local Authority. For further information please contact the Local Authority directly on 0191 433 4848. Lost Property: If a student leaves anything on the bus, parents should contact the operator directly. The Nexus website contains a full list of operators and their contact details.

There are 2 buses which operate for pupils living in Northumberland, the 550 and the 551. These are provided for students who are in Year 9 and above, are Catholic, and have a bus pass supplied by Northumberland Council. This is because the Local Authority will provide transport for students attending a school out of the catchment area when the parent has expressed a preference for their child to be educated at a school with a particular ethos, because they adhere to a particular faith. In Northumberland, transport will only be provided to the nearest faith school to home, provided that it is the faith to which the parent adheres and that such religious education is not available within the catchment school. For Catholic children in Northumberland, St Thomas More School only becomes the nearest faith school at Year 9, due to the Catholic Middle School in Hexham which students could attend up to Year 8.

Please note that if your child lives in Northumberland and does not adhere to the Catholic faith, there is no transport provision from Northumberland Local Authority, and students will therefore need to make their own arrangements or use public transport.
